These are some of our personal favourites of places to visit - there are of course many more.!!

The Corfu donkey sanctuary -

This is a sanctuary started and maintained by a lady called Judy Quinn..

Even if you don’t manage to visit the actual sanctuary, you can still visit the web-site and adopt a donkey!

The Silva project -

Yet another non-profit charity started by Sylvia Steen in 1996 to protect the Skyrian breed of horse from extinction, the children

Can even have riding lessons on these lovely little ponies!

Scuba diving -

as Andy is an instructor we had to include this - there are various dive shops but our favourite site is -

www.diveincorfu.gr

Aqualand -

Of course Jamie would not let us for get one of his favourite places -

this incredible water park that you really need a whole day to enjoy!

Corfu town- and the Old Fort

Not just one for the shoppers, this incredible place has now been

made a UNESCO national heritage site - and when you visit it you will understand why.

One definite place to go is to the old fort and walk to the

top of the lighthouse where the whole of the town is visible!

Pony-trekking

Our friends Mark and Sally have a wonderful pony-trekking facility which caters for all levels and lets you see the lovely Corfiot countryside from horseback

ATTRACTIONS

WALKING

Benitses is just a little way off the “Corfu trail” [ http://www.corfutrail.org/travel.html ]

which actually runs from one end of Corfu to the other and is now featured on the new map of Corfu by  Freytag and Berndt. If that is a little ambitious for you, there are lots of lovely local walks to be enjoyed with some stunning views. One of our favourites is the village of Chlomos which is wrapped around mount Kavalovouni and is a fantastic maze of streets, the church has the most breathtaking of views of the island and on clear days to the Island of Paxos! There are some lovely walks just around Benitses, with one going to the village of Stavros, with incredible views from the monastery!

CYCLING

Is one of the nicest ways to see the island and we have an excellent company who can deliver to the hotel all levels of bike from the basic to the most advanced for those of you who may be very serious about your cycling!! For those of you who are serious there is a very good company here that do organised bike tours and we can arrange for you to join them - here is an example of one of the routes they follow-

"At the station we cross the village road into the unknown green country-side. After a stop at a waterwell a donkey path brings us along frog-lake to the vineyards of the Ropa Valley. We sample a little of the excellent local wine at the village square and find our off-road way to Ermones: the bay where Odysseus met Nafsika... In the azure blue waters we uncover us of the dust and enjoy our lunch at the waterfront taverna. The way back will lead us along wonderful olive-groves and a peculiar dogs home."
30km, easy
